With Boards of Directors eager for AI and Data Governance-savvy IT leaders, why leave your IT searches to chance?

With Boards of Directors thirsty for AI and Data Governance knowledgeable IT leaders, why leave your IT searches (CIO, CDO, VP, CISO, CTO, etc.) to chance? Here are some reasons senior-level IT candidates tell us they are reluctant to apply to roles posted online:

  1. Senior-level candidates look for someone to gauge the personality of a company and to usher them seamlessly through the process. We hear candidates say, “If they post the role without an external professional handling the recruitment process, then how important is the role to the organization?” This perception proliferates through the marketplace of potential candidates.
  2. Candidates tell us they have not submitted an online application since the beginning of their career and are reluctant to do it at this stage in their career.
  3. With so much talk about “ghost” positions, candidates don’t know if the role is real or not.
  4. The longer the position sits online, the more candidates perceive that something is “wrong” with the role or the organization. Without someone in the marketplace telling your story, you are allowing the imagination of the marketplace to run wild, leaving your company’s appeal to chance. Why risk it?
  5. LinkedIn keeps a running total of applications received for an open role, and we have been told that this cheapens the allure of a potential senior-level role in addition to making candidates wonder if the company will ever see their resume.

Posting a senior-level IT role is analogous to an MLB team holding an open tryout for a star pitcher versus calling an agent who can get them the right person for their particular needs. If any of these reasons above cross a candidate’s mind, you run the risk of NOT getting that candidate’s resume for your open role. This leaves you to decide on the best candidate you find in your open tryout versus the best candidate for the role, which the agent will help you to identify. Relying on ‘chance’ in this age of AI and Data to get the right leader in IT is not a path to success, but engaging the right partner that will GUARANTEE you success will pay dividends for years to come.
